1. How do I schedule a pick-up?

It is quick and simple - and you can schedule online or by phone: 503.295.1936 in Portland or 800.789.0719. You will be asked for your zip code so we can give you the dates we will be picking up in your area. Then you select the organization to receive the proceeds of your donation. After that, we ask for your name, address, contact information (phone or email) and where the donation will be located on the day of the pick-up.

2. What organizations can I give to?
Whether online or phone, you will have a list to choose from or you can designate one that is not registered with us. Almost any Faith, School, Nonprofit, Sports League or team, Club or Fraternal Organization is eligible to receive the funds.

3. Can I give to multiple organizations?
You are limited to designating one organization per pick-up. So, for example, if you have us pick-up 4 times in a year, you can give to 4 different organizations.  As we say: "Your donation, Your choice".

4. What can I donate?
It's a long list but here is the short version:
Clothing of all sizes and styles, Accessories, Shoes, Bed and Bath linens
Household Goods and Small Miscellaneous items including glassware, silverware, books, small appliances, hand tools, toys
Please check our complete list for details

We are unable to take very large pieces of furniture, such as couches, china cabinets, hide-a-beds, and large entertainment centers.  We normally have just one person our our truck, so we have to limit the size of what we pick up to what one person can reasonably handle.

5. How should I prepare my donations?
Please bag or box the clothing, shoes and linen separate from the household and miscellaneous. Please clearly mark the bags and boxes "GivSmart"; if we are in doubt, we will not pick it up. Please keep the bags and boxes small and light enough to be handled by one person.

6. What happens on the scheduled pick-up day?
Put your clearly marked donations in the secure and dry location you indicated when the pick-up was scheduled. Please have things out by 9:00 a.m.; they will be picked up before 5:00 p.m.

7. Where does my donation go?
GivSmart LLC is a contracted supplier to the Value Village thrift store chain. All donations go into their supply chain to be sorted and distributed. Something to consider: Value Village has purchased more than a billion dollars of donated merchandise from community organizations in their 55 years of business! Imagine the incredible impact those millions of dollars have had in the hands of community organizations over the years...

8. How does the organization get paid?
We weigh each donation when we pick it up and credit the designated organization. After the end of each month, we total all donations for each organization and send them a check and a list of donors from the preceding month.

9. I care about the environment, how does your program help?
Reuse is the most efficient form of recycling. Textiles alone make up 7% to 8% of the waste stream; that number would be near zero if everybody donated their surplus clothing and linens.  There are so many reasons to donate your unwanted items!

10. I have a lot of stuff and need to get it picked up ASAP, can you help?
Yes! Please contact us and we will get back to you and schedule a pick-up ASAP.

11. I forgot to leave my donation out, now what?
It happens! If you can hold on to the items until the next time we are scheduled to be in your zip code, that would be best. If not, please contact us and we will fit you in on a route that is close to your area.
