About Us

Community based organizations in the form of Faith Centers, PTA/PTOs, nonprofits, sports leagues, fraternal organizations exist because of the incredible dedication and effort of volunteers and staff. Whether it is a neighbor working at a food bank, a minister counseling a young couple or a dad coaching a little league team, there is a common thread: a need and desire to help and serve. The very tangible fruit of these individual efforts, however big or small, is a richer community that is a better place for all.

But there is another side to this picture. Even though the first need of every community based organization is good people investing their time and passion, it is clear money comes in a close second. Unfortunately, the sad truth is the impact of many vital community efforts are frustrated by inadequate funding. So, after many years of volunteering and working in community based organizations, we founded GivSmart LLC to help address the critical challenge of raising funds. We know firsthand the positive impact new resources can have, helping individuals embrace new goals with rekindled  hope and passion.

Why Us?

There is little reason to doubt grants, contracts, cash donations, fees and other "traditional" fund sources will continue to be the backbone of funding for many organizations. But even traditional sources can be fickle, important new initiatives emerge and unmet needs continue to grow. All of which means leaders of community organizations are faced with the challenge of an unquenchable thirst for new funding opportunities. Where will these new opportunities be found? We believe one key source is wherever commerce occurs. While funding from social enterprise endeavors has been a mainstay for some organizations for decades, there is an enormous, untapped potential for everybody. Endeavors where effort and skillful management will bring the rewards of new, sustainable funding. And that is where GivSmart LLC, a social enterprise company, can help meet a critical need. Our sole focus is on developing social enterprise fundraising programs, creating opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for most organizations.

To be successful in meeting our dual goals of helping community based organizations succeed while making a profit to sustain our efforts, GivSmart is run as a for profit enterprise. At the same time, it is also a company that is informed and guided by our decades of experience working in and managing community based organizations.  As a result, GivSmart might be best described as a company that has the heart of a nonprofit but utilizes the for profit business structure to be sustainable and maintain flexibility.
